ACTION RESEARCH PROJECT

How does playing with a pencil and paper affect creativity and therefore the well being of student/staff?

UAL staff and students on the Furniture and Product Design Course, where I teach, will be sent an email about a drawing/mark making workshop detailing its aims and method. Those wishing to take part can RSVP. A random sample of fifteen participants will be selected and invited to to take part in the workshop. In the event of no response or subsequent withdrawal of consent, no replacement will be sought.

How can we create a space of compassionate belonging where belonging is ‘being fully human’ and being respected as the sustainable solution to ‘Othering’ according to John A Powell.

There is a direct correlation between belonging and well being. Due to the physical exhaustion from the complexities of the contemporary world, it isn’t always clear what is needed to feel fully human. What does it mean to be human?  Can a drawing practice create a space to think and dream? Can the drawing table become a place where relationships are built and stories shared, where material connects to the knowledge of lived experience of heart, body and mind with presence in the moment and therefore create a space where there is belonging, in turn create well being?
